Car ‘impaled’ on concrete post at side of the road

THE ENGINE of a car was “impaled” on a concrete post in a road traffic collision, a local court heard.
Lakita Faulkner, aged 21, of Coolnacave, Mitchelstown, County Cork was accused of driving without reasonable consideration at Curraghturk, Ballylanders.
The investigating garda - Mary Louise Armstrong - said while Ms Faulkner was not present in Kilmallock Court, she was not “in jeopardy” (at risk of going to prison).
Garda Armstrong said she responded to the single vehicle accident on the R512 on October 2, 2022.
“The vehicle was travelling from Mitchelstown to Ballylanders. It left the road, crossing a grass margin. It went through concrete paling. The vehicle hit one of the posts so hard it was impaled in the engine. There were no passengers in the car,” said Garda Armstrong.
The garda said the defendant was taken away by ambulance.
“She was released from hospital the following day. A fixed charge penalty notice was issued which remains unpaid,” said Garda Armstrong.
Judge Patricia Harney decided not to deal with the case at that court sitting in Kilmallock.
“I am a bit concerned. There might be an issue,” said Judge Harney.
A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Ms Faulkner.
