It is understood the car has been parked in the loading bay for a number of months

A CAR in Limerick city has amassed between 12 and 14 parking tickets.

It is understood the vehicle has been located at a parking bay in Limerick city for at least a couple of months, amassing the large collection of parking tickets on the owner’s windscreen.

It is not known when or if the car will be towed away even though it has likely been abandoned. The car is parked in a parking bay and not obstructing traffic.

Under the Waste Management Act Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) have the authority to have vehicles removed in certain circumstances.

If LCCC were to get involved the state of the car would play a factor in its removal. In judging if a car is abandoned, the physical condition of the vehicle would be taken into account such as body damage, deflated tyres, oil leak, presence of algae, etc.

The local authority would also take into account the possible risks to the environment.

They would also take into consideration the status of motor tax, insurance and NCT.

In relation to the car parked in Limerick city, its motor tax is out of date and it is overdue an NCT. However, it is insured until July 2024, judging by the car's disc holder.

According to the Waste Management Act, 1996, if the local authority is able to ascertain the details of the owner of the vehicle “the local authority shall store or arrange for the storage of the vehicle and shall serve a notice on the owner informing him or her of the removal and storage and of the address of the place where the vehicle may be claimed or recovered, and such a notice shall require the owner to claim or recover it within 2 weeks of the date of the service of the notice and inform him or her of the consequences specified in subsection (7) of his or her failure to do so.”
