The scheme applies to those buying or self-building their first home

THE ceiling on the First Home Scheme has been increased by €25,000 up to €425,000 for first-time buyers and those doing self-builds.

It will benefit Limerick applicants with immediate effect.

The scheme is mainly aimed at first-time buyers and those doing self-builds who cannot get the full amount needed for a mortgage and deposit.

Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea told Limerick Live that housing continues to be a priority for the party and that this will help to bridge the gap between what people have as a mortgage and deposit and the price of a new home.

He said: “We will continue to support first-time buyers as a priority with tax rebates and other financial supports to help them get on the property ladder.”

He added that under the Housing for All plan, from June 2023 until May 2024, construction started on 51, 395 housing units.

His party colleague, Minister Niall Collins added: “Fianna Fáil’s top priority remains doing everything we can to help people to afford to buy or rent a home and my focus is on doing whatever I can to keep this positive momentum going.”
