A NUMBER OF complaints were submitted to the National Transport Authority regarding rodents spotted on train lines and within Limerick train stations.

Documents received via a Freedom of Information request detailed over one thousand complaints made regarding Irish Rail services travelling to and from Limerick, as well as in Colbert Station and Limerick Junction.

In these complaints, there are two mentions of a “rodent issue” in recent months.

In August of 2026, one complaint marked a “red escalation” on a “rat infestation report”.

Another complaint, also from August, claimed there was a “rodent issue” on a Limerick intercity line.

Further back, in November of 2025, one customer claimed mouse droppings were found on the disposable lid on their cup of tea.

These complaints, along with over a thousand others, were revealed following a Freedom of Information request sent to the National Transport Authority.

Other complaints stemming from Limerick railway lines included a report of a passenger wielding a hatchet, as well as a customer who requested a refund after being stuck in an elevator for over an hour, causing them to miss their train. When contacted, gardai stated they did not have any records matching the alleged hatchet incident.

A number of accessibility-related complaints were also submitted. One customer complained after they were denied access into the disabled toilets of Limerick Colbert.

On the same day that the complaint was submitted, another customer noted that no wheelchair access had been organised for their train.

There have been 26 complaints of anti-social behaviour on Limerick train lines this year so far.

One of these complaints reported “intimidation, vaping, and aggressive posturing against a lady passenger”.
