SHOUTS of 'Drive the feckin' thing' from a Limerick hurling supporter may not have been appreciated at the revered Home of Cricket.

An eagle-eyed Limerick Live reader sent in this photo of a man in a Limerick jersey from around 2007 enjoying the England v Ireland test match in Lord's on Saturday. It was probably much easier to get a ticket than for next Sunday's Munster final against Clare in the TUS Gaelic Grounds

He donned a baggy green jersey instead of a baggy green cap - a symbol of Australian cricket. After a valiant display Ireland lost by 10 wickets at the historic venue on Saturday. Kerry football supporters are often spotted wearing their green and gold jerseys at the Masters in Augusta so perhaps this is a new trend.

Considering that hurling and cricket are both played with handcrafted wooden sticks from ash and willow and a hard ball one wonders how the Limerick hurlers would fare at the game.

It is easy to imagine Diarmaid Byrnes hitting cover drives for four and sixes out of the ground for fun. Especially when he doesn't have a half forward hanging off him and trying to hook him. Nickie Quaid would be an ideal wicket keeper with his safe pair of hands. It would be walk in the park for him as he even gets to wear giant gloves.

England now look forward to The Ashes against their great rivals Australia and Limerick will do likewise against Clare.
