A UKRAINIAN mother convicted of drink driving has been disqualified from driving for two years.

Kruglia Svitlana, aged 40, of Cahermoyle House, Ardagh pleaded guilty at Newcastle West Court to the offence.

Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said Garda Yohan Hunt was on mobile patrol at Churchtown, Newcastle West on January 1, 2023.

“He had occasion to stop the defendant after the manner of her driving attracted his attention. He formed his opinion that she was under the influence of an intoxicant. She was arrested and conveyed to Rathkeale garda station,” said Insp Thompson.

The court heard that she gave a breath sample which showed 58mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath.

Michael O’Donnell, solicitor for Ms Svitlana, said his client is a young lady.

“She is a single parent. Her financial circumstances are not great,” said Mr O’Donnell, who asked that a driving disqualification be adjourned until October 1 so she can make arrangements.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican put Ms Svitlana off the road for two years and fined her €500.

There was no objection by Insp Thompson to the postponement of the disqualification.
