Extra speed ramps to be considered for Limerick estate

It follows the death of one resident’s dog
THE HOUSING co-operative which owns and runs one of the city’s newest housing estates has said it may put extra road safety measures in place.
It follows the death of one resident’s dog, a border-collie which died from injuries sustained.
Monéir, located off Condell Road on the northside, has approximately 100 homes.
But one resident, who has lived on site since its opening two years ago, has called for increased speed ramps in the estate after the death of his pet.
The man, who did not wish to be identified, admitted he is an “emotional wreck” after his dog’s passing - and he wants the speed ramps installed to reduce the chance of any more incidents like these.
“This dog would lay at your feet when washing the dishes and look up to you. He'd almost pin you to the floor. He'd put the right side of his head on your left side. That's how affectionate he was. He was an incredible pet,” he said.
“This should never happen again to anyone, any kid, or any family, or any animal either,” the man added.
A spokesperson for Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) said the estate’s layout has been designed in line with council planning guidelines to control and deter speeding.

“However, CHI recognises that further measures may be needed to ensure road safety on the estate and will contact households with possible further steps to be taken to improve safety in the community,” they added.
The resident said some cars can speed up to 60 kilometres per hour in the estate, despite children playing.
It's not a big thing to ask for. Speed ramps could be put in on a whole day,” said the man.
