Gardai have launched an investigation into an incident, which saw the 303 bus terminate its route into Moyross before it headed into the northside estate

BUS Eireann was forced to cut its services into Moyross after fireworks and rocks were hurled at its vehicles.

Gardai have launched an investigation into the incident, which saw the 303 bus terminate its route before it headed into the northside estate.

The attack happened at around 8pm on Friday, September 4, 2026.

As a precaution, neither service 303 or 306 served Moyross for two hours after this. They returned to Moyross for the last hour of service on the day.

There were no injuries to any passengers or drivers arising from the attack.

But the fact fireworks were thrown at the vehicles sparked concern and forced the call to the gardai.

Officers carried out searches to find the culprits, but were unsuccessful.

A garda spokesperson confirmed they received a report of criminal damage to a vehicle in Moyross and is continuing its investigation.

The incident was also confirmed by Bus Eireann, a spokesperson for the firm adding: “The safety of our passengers and employees is of paramount importance to Bus Éireann, and any incidents reported are taken very seriously and are fully investigated. Drivers are required to report incidents as soon as possible after occurrence. Customers or members of the public can also report any incidents to gardaí, to the driver, or to our Customer Care team”.

Ahead of the Halloween period, parents are being urged to ensure their children do not force the disruption of bus services in this manner.

"The older travelling public need these services," a source familiar with the situation told the Leader. “The last thing we want to do is pull these services due to kids being unscrupulous, firing missies and rockets. It’s not fair on the wider travelling public."

It’s the latest incident of anti-social and criminal behaviour to hit the 303 route, which connects the city centre to the Regeneration estates of Southill and Moyross.

Information provided to the Leader in December 2024 revealed that there were 74 incidents of anti-social behaviour on Limerick’s bus network in the space of a year.

One-third of these took place on the 303 service.

A shocking incident in July 2024 saw a female driver of a 303 bus shot at in the face with an air gun after youths refused to pay their fare. Services to parts of Carew Park and O'Malley Park were temporarily suspended following the incidents. Nowadays, a security van follows the bus as it serves the estate after dark.
