SEVERAL “amazing and selfless” volunteers have received widespread recognition at this year’s national Irish Red Cross Volunteer Awards.

The Limerick City branch itself was also nominated for Branch of the Year, recognising the collective efforts of all its members in providing exemplary service to the local community.

Five of Limerick’s Red Cross volunteers earned nominations across multiple categories, those of which were Niall Boland, Beth Mullane, Eoin Hayes, Sarah Daly and Kate Keane.

Niall Boland, nominated for Volunteer of the Year, has been a stalwart member of the Limerick branch for 18 years. Serving as an EMT and clinical lead, he is said to have been instrumental in covering major events and training fellow volunteers.

Youth Volunteer of the Year nominee Beth Mullane is described fondly by colleagues as “an outstanding youth member whose dedication and enthusiasm exemplify the spirit of volunteering”. As a young volunteer, Beth has been involved in various community projects and continues to inspire her peers with her commitment.

In the category of Unit Member of the Year, Eoin Hayes has been nominated for his remarkable service as a unit member. Eoin’s consistent dedication to his duties is said to make him “an indispensable part of the Limerick branch operations”.

Sarah Daly, nominated for Instructor of the Year, has been an Assistant Unit Officer with the Novice/Youth Units. Her innovative teaching methods and passion for first-aid instruction have made her a valuable asset in training the next generation of Red Cross volunteers.

Additionally, Kate Keane has been nominated for Newcomer of the Year. Despite being a new member, Kate’s contributions have quickly made her an integral part of the team.

Secretary general of the Irish Red Cross said: “All of these finalists from Limerick are amazing individuals and contribute so much and a huge amount of their free time helping others in the public and out and about in their communities through their selfless work for the Irish Red Cross.

“They all deserve so much credit and we congratulate them for getting to the final stages of the Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards.”
