Free cannabis treatment programme for Mid-West

A new treatment programme for cannabis users is to become available for members of the Mid-West area.
The HSE Mid West Drug & Alcohol Service is soon to offer an eight-week group treatment programme for individuals “concerned about their use of cannabis and who would like to stop, cut down or consider making a change.”
This is a free and confidential service suitable for those aged 18 and over living in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary.
According to the HSE, it is based on treatment strategies which research has proved to be effective. In the past, many participants have reduced their use or achieved abstinence of the substance.
Facilitated by an outreach worker and counsellor, the programme has been run on several previous occasions.
Mark Campbell is a facilitator of the “evidence based programme” and shares a glimpse of what is to be expected for any prospective programme goer.
“Those who have come in the past have felt welcomed in the group,” he began. “There are other people there who are in a similar situation to them and this is a big part in making people feel welcome,” he added.
An important part of the group is supporting those who are trying to change their lives. “Everybody is there for the same purpose and that is quite valuable.”
Starting on February 21 and running for eight weeks in the city, information can be found by phoning Justin on 087 2051958 or Mark on 086 3847075.
