GARDAI have caught a second motorist driving at close to 200km/h in Limerick in the space of three weeks.

Over the weekend, gardai attached to the Roads Policing Unit in Limerick intercepted a motorist driving at 191km/h near Castletroy on the M7 Limerick to Dublin motorway. The speed limit is 120km/h

“The driver now faces a court appearance with a possible disqualification,” reads a post on the An Garda Siochana Limerick Instagram page.

At the beginning of August, the Roads Policing Unit in Limerick clocked a driver travelling at 195km/h in a jeep on the M20 Limerick to Cork motorway.

A post on An Garda Siochana Limerick’s Instagram page read: “195km/h in a 120km/h zone… that’s not ‘making good time’, that’s making a court date.”

It continued: “A Fixed Charge Notice wasn’t appropriate in this case - the driver was arrested and will now appear before the courts charged with dangerous driving.

“If you’re in that much of a hurry, you’re already too late. Slow down and help keep our roads safe,” concluded the post on Limerick gardai’s social media feed.
