Hats off to Séamus whose head and heart say Limerick are up for Tipp!

Twelve-year-old from Murroe created the hurling hat as part of his school's Easter Bonnet competition
SOMBRERO-wearing Limerick hurling superfan, Pat ‘The Bog’ Carroll, Croom, has a friendly rival in Séamus Kinsella, Murroe with his hurling hat.
The 12-year-old is pictured sporting his Limerick hurlers-inspired headpiece as part of an Easter Bonnet competition in Scoil Mhuire NS, Murroe.
Séamus, from the same parish as Limerick great Séamus Hickey, is wearing his hat this Sunday as Limerick take on Tipperary at 4pm.
If world-renowned Irish milliner Philip Treacy needs talented young apprentices he should head to east Limerick.
Sixth class children, including Séamus, in Scoil Mhuire NS, Murroe, took part in an Easter Bonnet competition with imaginative hats fit for the catwalks of Milan, Paris and New York.

The children were tasked with creating an original piece to showcase as part of their Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum.
The children chose from a list of categories - traditional and topical; news / current affairs; sports, health and fitness; literature, entertainment, film and creative reuse of materials.
They also had to come up with a creative name for their bonnets, and say what inspired them in making their decisions.
There was everything from robots to racing cars to clocks and, of course, an ode to the Limerick hurlers in the hat designs.
Principal, Anthony Sharkey, and sixth class teacher, Siobhain Walsh Clohessy, were there to support the children throughout the creative process, giving advice and guidance, but ultimately the constructions were the children’s own hard work.
While they were free to use whatever materials they wanted, the children were encouraged by Mr Sharkey and Ms Walsh Clohessy to use materials available at home and in school, but particularly materials from recycling bins in a nod to Junk Kouture.

The whole school, as well as parents /grandparents, turned out before the Easter break to support the children as they walked the catwalk, displaying their amazing creations.
As well as fostering creativity and problem solving, this STEM initiative was a fantastic way to create school/home links, with whole families being involved in the spectacular creations, said Mr Sharkey and Ms Walsh Clohessy.
Their Easter break was well-deserved!
