Event takes place this Tuesday evening

A LECTURE on the foundations of Newtown Pery in Georgian Limerick is to take place this Tuesday evening in the city centre.

Head of architecture at University of Limerick, Peter Carroll, will present the event at the LPYMA building in O’Connell Street at 8pm.

Entry is €5 and open to all.

The event has been organised by the Limerick Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society which has returned to presenting evening lectures after a four year absence.

It’s expected the event will appeal to anyone with an interest in Limerick’s history and architecture in general.

Irish Georgian Society is a membership-driven organisation whose aims are to protect and foster interest in the nation’s historic architecture, decorative arts and designed landscapes and gardens.

Founded in 1958 by the late Desmond and Mariga Guinness, it champions the cause to save and preserve Ireland’s unique and valuable historic buildings and landscapes.

Its Limerick Chapter was established in 1996 by the late Desmond FitzGerald, the 29th Knight of Glin.

He and others had hoped to highlight the importance of Limerick’s Georgian heritage.

It hosts an annual Knight of Glin lecture to celebrate his achievements in Limerick and beyond, details of which will be announced soon.
