Former boxer Jonathan O’Brien shared an update in a post on social media

A FRIEND of Lee Reeves has criticised the HSE in relation to the ongoing care of the popular Limerick boxer.

Former boxer Jonathan O’Brien, who is a good friend of Lee’s and the Reeves’ family, shared an update on the progress in relation to the Limerick man’s care in a post on social media this Monday morning, September 21.

He said: “The family weren’t happy with an awful lot of things, they’ve had a couple of meetings with the hospital”.

The 31-year-old has been in hospital in Dublin since he was knocked out in a fight in the 3Arena on Saturday, August 1.

Last week Jonathan expressed his frustration after a planned operation on Lee was postponed. He has explained previously that the operation will “put a plate back in Lee’s head where he had to get the skull removed to release the pressure from the brain from the trauma of the boxing”.

This Monday Jonathan said that the Reeves family sat down with the hospital late last week to discuss Lee’s operation: “The meeting went like it went, the family spoke with the doctors and they’ve been told that any day this week Lee should be having the operation, and that’s all as we know.”

The former boxer wanted to thank everyone who has helped. “We just want to thank all these people that are getting involved, we want to thank everybody for all your messages, all your support, all your donations towards Lee for his recovery.

“It’s going to be a very very long road for Lee, very very long road. We need to just keep praying that, you know, Lee comes back to himself as best he can,” he added before explaining that he prays “every single day” for his friend “and every single night”.

“I can’t get him out of my mind,” he noted.

He expressed how difficult it has been for himself and the Reeves family. “It’s a tough one for the family and when you are that close getting involved with it, it’s really hard.”

He ended the post expressing frustration towards the HSE, calling it a “disgrace”, before adding that it is “in my opinion - that’s what I’ve seen”.

“Keep donating to Lee’s page if you can, push that GoFundMe page,” he finished.
