Lights, camera, action: Pub wins more prizes than the Limerick hurlers!

Kilteely is fast rivalling Hollywood for movie success
ONLY the Limerick hurlers can rival a pub in terms of accolades.
The story of 26 locals joining together in Kilteely last year to save the last pub in the community made local, national and international headlines.
In January, a film crew pitched up in the village to make a short film about The Street Bar. Commissioned by Heineken, The Pub That Refused To Die premiered at the Dublin Film Festival. It has captured the imagination of audiences and critics as it swept the boards at a number of award ceremonies.

Noel O’Dea, one of the pub’s directors, said when they decided to purchase what was Ahern’s pub, “little did any of us realise the journey that would unfold”. Last Thursday, they got a much awaited visit from Publicis, the marketing and advertising company behind the film of their story.
Noel said they brought a small selection of the multiple awards the film has garnered over the last few months. The Pub That Refused To Die won five trophies at the Cannes Lions, considered the Oscars of the marketing world, and scooped the ultimate prize, the Cannes Lions Grand Prix.

More awards followed, winning six prizes, including three Gold at the ICAD (Institute of Creative Advertising and Design) Awards.
Most recently came more good news, 10 awards at the London International Awards in Las Vegas including the ultimate, the Grand LIA.
And Noel says it's not over yet!
“The film has been entered into other international awards festivals over the coming months and will hopefully gather more awards. All this is possible due to the work of Publicis, the film company, Antidote Productions, and Heineken.
“Of course it would not have been possible without the people in the film itself, ordinary people from the community who, without any acting experience, told the story of our journey which has resonated throughout the world,” said Noel.
He described last Thursday, October 8 as a great evening of celebration for the entire community, who “have ensured the pub goes from strength to strength and have proved the local pub is a vital part of the community”.
