LIMERICK City and County Council has confirmed plans are being drawn up to erect a big screen in the city centre for Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final between Limerick and Kilkenny.

A public notice, which was due to be published in this Wednesday's Limerick Leader, had indicated the big screen would be located on "Limerick’s main thoroughfare, O’Connell Street" but that notice was withdrawn this Monday afternoon.

It is understood locations in the city centre are being considered rather than TUS Gaelic Grounds and that a final decision will be made as soon as possible.

The matter was discussed at the July meeting of the council this Monday afternoon where members of the executive told councillors they will be informed of the final location of any big screen before any public announcement is made.

If a location in the city centre is agreed, road closures will be implemented across the city centre over the weekend.

The original public notice suggested more than 20 roads and streets would be impacted between 6pm on Friday and 6pm on Tuesday.

While no decision has been made, it's likely that any homecoming event on Monday will also take place in the city centre.
