Newcastle West man was in hospital for an extended period last month

COMMUNICATIONS Minister and Limerick TD Patrick O’Donovan has been admitted to hospital for the second time in less than a month, Limerick Live understands.

It’s understood the Fine Gael man was taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) on Thursday evening.

According to sources, Mr O’Donovan is being treated in intensive care, but this has not been confirmed officially.

As of now, his condition remains unclear.

On Tuesday, October 13 last, Mr O’Donovan was also conveyed to UHL after becoming unwell at a meeting with fellow communications ministers from across the European Union, which took place in University of Limerick (UL).

It’s understood he suffered a seizure, related to his diagnosis of epilepsy, which he revealed he struggled with last year.

This was the second time he was taken to hospital this year, having previously been hospitalised while in Brussels in July.

He left UHL last week, and at the start of this week, it was announced his ministerial responsibilities would be temporarily assigned to Enterprise Minister Peter Burke.

There is no confirmed date for Mr O’Donovan’s return to ministerial duties, but once he does, he is expected to return to his old role at the Department of Communications, Culture and Sport.
