Limerick motorist caught 'driving erratically' was three times the legal limit

A MOTORIST who was observed “driving erratically” by gardai was found to be three times over the legal limit.
William Cremin, aged 56, of Ballinena, Newcastle West pleaded guilty at the local court to drink driving.
Enda O’Connor, solicitor for Mr Cremin, said his client wasn’t in court but had indicated a plea of guilty.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, asked the investigating garda, Errol Flynn, what occurred after he witnessed a vehicle “driving erratically” at Churchtown, Newcastle West on August 23, 2021.
Garda Flynn said he arrested the defendant on suspicion of drink driving and conveyed him to Rathkeale Garda Station.
“The reading was 183mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood,” said Garda Flynn.
Mr O’Connor asked Garda Flynn if there was any collision? “No,” said Garda Flynn.
The solicitor asked the garda if Mr Cremin was “fully co-operative?” “Yes,” said Garda Flynn.
Mr O’Connor said his client is a 56-year-old family man.
“He is in employment. He has no previous convictions. He exercised very poor judgement and will now pay a severe penalty,” said Mr O’Connor.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican imposed the mandatory three year disqualification from driving and fined Mr Cremin €500.
There was no objection from Insp Thompson to an application by Mr O’Connor for the disqualification to commence on May 1.
