A COUNTY Limerick motorist who was stopped by gardai due to his overtaking “felt cars in front were driving too slow”.

Viorel Haciu, aged 33, of Cluain Riocard, Headford Road, Galway pleaded guilty at the local court to careless driving at Barnagh, Newcastle West.

Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said on April 26, 2022, gardai on duty received a number of reports in relation to a motorist’s nature of driving.

“Gardai stopped the car. There was a defendant, two females and an infant inside. The nature of his overtaking was a concern.

He felt cars in front were driving too slow. He cooperated fully,” said Insp Thompson.

Padraig O’Connell, solicitor for Mr Haciu, said his client is in a stable relationship.

“He has no previous convictions. There was no accident, no injury, no damage caused. He felt other vehicles were being driven too slowly. He cooperated fully with gardai,” said Mr O’Connell.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican fined Mr Haciu €400 for careless driving.
