A LIMERICK nun has denied plans to turn communion host green to mark All-Ireland Sunday.

On Thursday morning, news outlets reported that Sr Patricia Coughlan from St. Andrew’s Church in Kilfinane said they intended to turn the host green to mark the four-in-a-row efforts from the hurling heroes.

However, Sr Coughlan has now clarified that no such plans are in the making, but her devout dedication to Declan Hannon and the boys remains the same.

"Contrary to the reports, there was no mention by me or anyone else to media of an intention to turn the host green in the run up to Sunday’s game.

"Hurling means a lot but there is only one true altar, one true host, one body of Christ. This stands above all else.

"Nonetheless, we remain fully behind Limerick here in Kilfinane and are proudly part of that wider Limerick team. We’ve enlisted support where we can, with petitions and prayers ahead of Sunday.

"I know also that our Bishop here, Bishop Brendan Leahy, will be lighting a candle at the Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock on Saturday. May it burn brightly!".

St Andrew's are known for going all out for the boys in green as for the last number of years they have turned the altar into a "hurling shrine" featuring flags, photographs and banners.
