Limerick people encouraged to take part in property marking initiative

GARDAÍ across Limerick are encouraging people to take part in property marking days to help those who could be the potential victims of theft.
The initiative involves farmers, tradesmen or those with valuable tools and equipment availing of a laser like machine which stamps a specific number chosen by the owner on to the property.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson explained that if people have marked their property in such a way and it is stolen, it gives gardaí a better chance at returning the items to their rightful owner.
“The marking goes on a number of places and then the owners take note of the locations.
“If they are taken then it makes it easier for us to spot the numbers and hopefully return them.”
Inspector Thompson recently organised a property marking day, with the assistance of Diarmuid Cronin from Muintir na Tire, in Loughill where there was a good uptake by locals.
Inspector Thompson said they expect to run a number of similar events in locations throughout the county in 2024.
If you are a member of a local community group or association and you would like to hold a property marking day in your locality you can contact gardaí in Bruff or Askeaton garda stations for assistance.
