Limerick retailer seeks permission to expand store site

Council planners are expected to make a decision on the proposals in April
TESCO Ireland is seeking planning permission to expand its trading area at Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle.
The retailer has lodged papers with Limerick City and County Council seeking to merge two units for its facility in the shopping centre.
On top of this, the firm wants to bring a former creche facility, out of use for 15 years, back into regular service for retail.
The proposed development includes the relocation of the alcohol sales area in the store.
In documents provided to council planners, representatives of Tesco Ireland said the plans are coming forward as part of an upgrade of the British retailer’s estate across the country.
This is being done to “provide an enhanced customer experience” and represents a “significant investment” at Crescent Shopping Centre.

The documents also add that the expansion will provide for a “more modernised and efficient convenience store”.
Tesco’s branch in Dooradoyle is the final store in the firm’s Irish estate yet to be refurbished.
Council planners are expected to make a decision on the proposals by Tuesday, April 9 next.
Last month, Tesco Ireland outlined plans to open a new store in Limerick.
The firm is recruiting for staff at the former Iceland unit at Watch House Cross on the edge of Moyross.
