Limerick students starry-eyed with big win
TWO LIMERICK primary schools were crowned winners of two different categories at the 2023 FÍS Film Awards, writes Faye Dorgan.
Milford NS have been crowned winners of Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking - Costume Design, and St Gabriel’s School won the Award for Best Newcomer at the 17th National FÍS Film Awards.
This year's ceremony, which took place at The Helix, DCU, Dublin and was hosted by RTE’s Sinead Kennedy, was a collaboration between the Institute of Art, Design and Technology and the Professional Development Service for Teachers.
FÍS Manager from The Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Bernadette Meagher said: “The judges had a tough task at this year’s event, the standard and ambition of the entries was so high, not to mention the creativity.
“We congratulate every one of the children involved, along with their teachers, on their well-deserved awards.
“I sincerely hope this experience will encourage them to continue to explore digital creative arts throughout their education.”
The FÍS initiative is designed to challenge children to explore their imaginations through the use of film and teamwork.
