A WOMAN was scammed out of €300 after selling an iPad to an online buyer in Limerick.

The woman in her late 40s from the Cratloe Road area placed an ad online to sell an iPad at a price of €300

A buyer came forward and they agreed to meet on Friday, November 3 at 7pm at a location on the Ennis Road.

The meeting went ahead and the woman was handed the cash and the buyer went off with the iPad.

A short time later, the woman discovered that the six €50 notes she had received were all fake notes.

Unfortunately, the only identifying detail the woman had for the buyer was a phone number and this is no longer in use.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street garda station offered advice to people selling things online.

"Seller beware; ensure everything is as it should be before you hand over the item. It was dark at 7pm last Friday night, is this why the buyer chose that time?

"I just want people to be aware of the scams that are occurring in Limerick right now and to take extra care."
