GARDAI have arrested two individuals who stole a 30-year-old car belonging to a parish priest, Limerick Live has learned.
The Toyota Corolla was taken from outside popular priest Fr Dick Browne’s residence in Cappamore earlier this Tuesday.
Gardai were contacted and an alert went up on Cappamore Tidy Tidy Towns Facebook page: “Fr Browne's car was stolen from outside his house this afternoon. Please share this post with your Facebook friends. It's a blue green Toyota Corolla.”
Limerick Live was contacted by a reader who witnessed gardai in pursuit of the long-serving cleric’s vehicle in the Windmill Street area of the city at around 7pm.
Videos have emerged on social media which show the car being driven on Hyde Road and being followed by three garda vehicles in the Pery Square area.
In an update, Cappamore Tidy Towns said they had received reports of sightings of the Corolla in Abington, Murroe; Annacotty and Dublin Road. They thanked everyone who shared the post.
It is understood the garda containment operation concluded on Clare Street when gardai used a tyre stinger to stop the car.
It is believed that the two occupants of the vehicle were arrested by gardai and are currently being questioned by officers.
An Garda Siochana have been contacted for comment.
