The Abha Bhán group won many awards at the festival in Banteer in October

THE ABHA Bhán players, a local drama group from the Loughill and Ballyhahill area, got together last Friday, October 30 in Ballyhahill parish hall to be presented with the trophies they won at the recent Glen Theatre Festival of One Act plays in Banteer, Cork.

Councillor John Sheahan presented the group with their awards on the night.

The group won in the Confined category as follows:

Best Play - Dead Men’s Bells

Best Director - Tom Denihan

Best actress - Jayne Daly

Runners up play - Bedpans & Bodhráns, written by group member Eleanor McSweeney.

The group “could not ask for more” and are “so proud” of all involved: “on stage actors/actresses including our local Wrenboys who added so much to the production, all who worked backstage including makeup artists, sound and lighting, prop movers, van drivers and supporters.”

After the presentation all present enjoyed tea and cake while everybody had a chance to meet up and chat and share in the pride and delight of it all.

Group members John Buttery, Teresa Cregan-Stack, Lauren Nestor and Fiona Prendeville were unable to attend on the night and are missing from the photos.

The Abha Bhán players would like to give a “huge” thanks to director and founder of the group Eleanor McSweeney who started it all in 2018 and has been “going from strength to strength since then.”

Due to demand, there will be a chance to see both plays in St John’s Theatre, Listowel in early January 2027.

Watch out for more details nearer to the time.

The group added: “As always thanks to Brendan Doyle, our group photographer for preserving these moments for us.”
