ShelfLife, in partnership with the Convenience Stores & Newsagents Association, launched a nationwide leaflet drop

A NEW campaign has been launched in response to an upsurge in criminal activity against shop staff.

Retailers have reported experiencing criminal activity over the past year, including shoplifting, violent robberies, and gang intimidation.

This has caused ShelfLife in partnership with the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association to launch its largest-ever national leaflet drop giving important information to the quarter-of-a-million retail staff across the country.

It equips retail employees with essential information to advocate for a set of policies aimed at securing greater protections for retailers and their staff.

General Election hopefuls are being encouraged to state their support for the policies. These are mandatory jail sentences or exclusion orders for those who abuse, harass and assault shop staff.

They also want a local retail crime hotline to be set up. Shop workers also want to be allowed ask if someone has paid for goods. And the campaign wants more gardai on the beat.
