The DPP has directed prosecution on indictment at the Circuit Court

A MAN who was arrested in connection with alleged sexual assaults has been granted bail at Limerick District Court.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the complainants, appeared before Judge Patricia Harney to make a bail application. He was arrested and cautioned on Wednesday, September 9 before being conveyed to a garda station in the county where he was charged.

Judge Harney was informed that the man does not currently reside in Limerick and he was given a copy of the charges brought against him.

The prosecuting sergeant confirmed that the DPP has directed prosecution on indictment at the Circuit Court and has also consented to signed guilty pleas being entered, should the opportunity arise.

The accused is facing three separate charges of sexual assault. There are three complainants in the case.

Gardai did not object to the bail application. The conditions were canvassed to the man by his solicitor.

He was released on a €100 own bond and was instructed by Judge Harney to be of good behaviour, reside at the address approved by the courts, sign on weekly at a garda station in his locality, have no contact with the three alleged injured parties, surrender his passports and be available to contact via phone 24 hours a day. The man was also told to remain alcohol and drug-free in public.

The Limerick city state solicitor has been notified of the case and the accused was remanded on bail. No application for legal aid was made during the hearing and he will next appear before Limerick District Court on a date in December.
