Motorist drove through red light and 'took off' from gardai in Limerick town

A YOUNG man “took off” from gardai and went through a red light, Newcastle West Court heard.
Dean Buston, aged 21, of Killeheen, Ardagh pleaded guilty to careless driving at New Street, Abbeyfeale on January 26, 2022.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said gardai on mobile patrol observed a missing headlight on a vehicle.
“It took off and went through a red light. There were no vehicles oncoming. The vehicle stopped a short distance later. It was a momentary lapse. There were no other vehicles involved,” said Insp Thompson.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican asked what time the incident occurred at?
“8.40pm,” replied Insp Thompson.
Michael O’Donnell, solicitor for Mr Buston, said his client had bought the car half an hour previously and had no insurance on it.
“It was a simple matter of transferring it over. He is 21-years-old and works in farming environment,” said Mr O’Donnell, who stressed the importance of the accused having a driving licence.
“His ability to drive is crucial. It was one headlight that was out which drew the attention of gardai.
“No evasive action had to be taken by any other motorists,” said Mr O’Donnell.
Judge Coolican convicted and fined Mr Buston €500.
