Multi-million euro film set to be premiered at red carpet event in Limerick

European premiere of Bonhoeffer to take place at exclusive viewing in the city
A MULTI-million euro budget movie which was partially filmed in Limerick is set to have its red carpet European premiere hosted in the city.
The critically acclaimed Todd Komarnicki film Bonhoeffer, inspired by the life and legacy of theologian and anti-Nazi dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer, is being shown for the first time in Europe at The Belltable.
Ahead of its cinematic release date in Ireland and the UK on March 7, an exclusive viewing will take place in Limerick city, which served as the backdrop for the film's scenic landscape along with parts of Clare and Tipperary.
In 2023, when the €22m film was being shot, locations throughout Limerick were transformed into 1940s Germany.
The release of the Irish-Belgian co-produced film on March 7 coincides with the 80th anniversary year of the end of WWII and Bonhoeffer's (God's Spy) birthday.
“Bonhoeffer brings to life the extraordinary courage and unwavering conviction of a man who stood against the tyranny of the Nazi regime during one of history's darkest periods,” a spokesperson said.
“The film delves into Bonhoeffer's moral and spiritual struggle, portraying his efforts to resist oppression as well as ultimately his sacrifice.
“The film’s release comes at a time when Bonhoeffer’s legacy of courage and moral clarity feels more relevant than ever.
“Audiences can expect a thought-provoking, emotionally charged narrative that sheds light on an extraordinary life of resistance and faith.”
Directed by Todd Kormanicki (Elf, Sully) and with cinematography by two-time Academy Award Nominee John Mathieson (Gladiator, Logan, Gladiator II) the film features a powerful performance by Jonas Dassler (The Golden Glove, Never Look Away), co-starring 2025 BAFTA EE.
Rising Star Nominee David Jonsson (Industry, Pray Alien:Romulus), Bonhoeffer is already garnered critical praise for its compelling storytelling and historical significance.
The European premiere screening of Bonhoeffer hosted by Kova International will feature special guests in attendance including the director Todd Komarnicki will take place on Tuesday, February 25.
