A WOMAN who stole €250 of goods from a shop in Rathkeale has been given the benefit of the Probation Act.

Maria McDonagh, aged 29, of Bridge View, Roselevan, Ennis, Co Clare pleaded guilty to the theft of items from EuroSpar, Main Street, Rathkeale on February 23, 2023.

The type of items taken was not disclosed in Newcastle West Court, only that they were to the value of €250. The property was not recovered.

Michael O’Donnell, solicitor for Ms McDonagh, said his client has no previous convictions. He handed in a letter to Judge Carol Anne Coolican setting out Ms McDonagh’s medical history and background.

“She was not in a good place at the time. She is now 29,” said Mr O’Donnell.

Ms McDonagh handed €250 in compensation to Sergeant Dermot Cummins, prosecuting, for the shop owner.

Judge Coolican said she would give Ms McDonagh the benefit of the Probation Act as she has no previous convictions and compensation has been paid.
