No drugs conviction for woman if €200 goes to Limerick addiction centre

A WOMAN who was caught with cocaine has been ordered to pay €200 to an addiction centre.
Michelle Sheehy, aged 33, of Lower Maiden Street, Newcastle West was before the local court for the possession of drugs.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson said gardai were on patrol in Danganbeg, Newcastle West on October 30, 22. The inspector said gardai observed a white car which they considered to be suspicious.
“They spoke to the driver and conducted a search under warrant. They found cocaine valued at €140. She admitted under caution it was for personal use,” said Insp Thompson.
Enda O’Connor, solicitor for Ms Sheehy, said his client made admissions to gardai, was fully co–operative, has no previous convictions and is in employment.
The solicitor asked Judge Deirdre Gearty if she would consider the Probation Act.
Judge Gearty, who was standing in for Judge Carol Anne Coolican, asked Inspector Thompson if there are any local drugs charities.
Insp Thompson proposed Cuan Mhuire in Bruree which was acceptable to Judge Gearty. The judge said if Ms Sheehy pays €200 to the addiction treatment centre the matter would be struck out.
The case was adjourned for two months to allow for the donation to be made.
