Gardaí are investigating

GARDAÍ are investigating after a number of cars were stolen from two areas of Limerick on the same night.

On March 8 at 11pm, a man in his 50s went to bed in his home in the Fr. Russell Road area of Dooradoyle.

The following morning at 6:45am he realised that two cars were missing from outside his home.

He also discovered that both sets of car keys were missing from the kitchen table. Nothing else was taken or interfered with.

On the same night, a man in his 30s left his home in Herbertstown to check on cows that were calving in a farmyard a distance away.

He returned home at approximately 10pm and left the keys of his jeep on a sideboard.

He closed the door behind him but did not lock it as he intended on going back to the farmyard later.

Unfortunately, he fell asleep and when he awoke later at 6:30am he discovered that the keys of his jeep were taken and the vehicle was gone from outside house.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said: "Gardai know that criminals try the doors of cars and homes in the hope that they are unlocked. Criminals also look in the windows of homes to see if the car keys are visible.

"There are four elements to securing your car, lock it, check that it is locked, leave nothing in it would attract a thief and secure your car keys out of sight in your home".
