Old guesthouse in Limerick for sale for less than €200k

A FORMER eight-bedroom guesthouse in Limerick city has gone on the market - for just €160,000.
However, there is a catch, with the three-storey property at Old Clare Street currently in a derelict state, and in need of huge renovation.
The property, Parkside, is located in the middle of a terrace, and there’s an additional one-bedroom residential complex to its rear.
Located on a 0.06-acre site, the total floor area of the property extends to approximately 238 square metres.
Due to its condition, Limerick City and County Council took steps to acquire the property under derelict sites legislation last year. Now it is on the market for a knockdown price.
Local councillor Kieran O’Hanlon, who represents the area on the local authority said: “That guesthouse is derelict for quite a number of years.”
“There is a lot of properties in the city which are empty and the council has done a good job in getting them back,” he said.
“Any empty houses which are derelict, or semi-derelict and unoccupied, with the housing crisis we have, I think council should do its utmost. And I would praise them for the work they are doing,” said councillor O’Hanlon.
Since the property has come into the ownership of Limerick City and County Council, it will be ultimately up to members to decide to accept or reject any proposal to sell it.
Speaking in late 2022 after announcing the acquisition of the former guesthouse, council community director Gordon Daly said: “Overall, the council is taking a very robust approach to dealing with dereliction and since 2019 we have completed over 4,200 inspections of derelict and vacant properties in Limerick. This has resulted in over 1,500 statutory notices being served on property owners under Derelict Site Act, 1990, indicating the considerable level of work being undertaken in this area.”
“In a large number of cases, owners of properties engage with the Council and a significant amount of housing stock has been brought back into use arising from this activity,” he added.
