Tail-end of Hurricane Ernesto to hit Ireland in early hours of Friday morning

MET EIREANN has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for the southern half of the country with potential power outages and fallen trees.

It was issued this Thursday morning and is valid from midnight this Thursday to 6am on Friday morning.

The warning covers Munster, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Wexford and Wicklow.

Met Éireann says the unseasonably strong and gusty south to southwest winds veering west to northwest will coincide with very high tides.

It is due to the tail-end of hurricane Ernesto crossing the Atlantic.

For precautionary measures the council has installed flood defence barriers at Clancy Strand, O' Callaghan Strand, Foynes and Askeaton.
