CONTRACTORS are set to begin work to erect railing along the entirety of one of the city quays after concerns were raised over safety.

Workers are set to be on site at Steamboat Quay, adjacent to the Clayton Hotel in the city centre to install the protection along the whole of the area.

While most of the quay has railings along it, there is a small portion just beside the Mount Kennett Skate Park which does not.

However, the council has this month confirmed that Sorensen Civil Engineering has been appointed to remedy this, with its workers due on site on July 3 next.

It's anticipated work on the new railings will take approximately a month to complete.

The update, from council engineer John O'Leary, was provided to newly-elected metropolitan district leader Azad Talukder, who is based in the area.

He has previously raised concerns about the safety of local residents, with many youngsters living locally using the quay as a de-facto front garden.
