Second housing development announced for Limerick village

AN INTENTION to apply for planning permission for the development of a new residential estate in a Limerick townland has been sent to Limerick City and County Council.
The housing development which will be located on the lands at Ballyveloge outside Patrickswell is expected to consist of 52 separate residential units.
The contractors of the development are Michael Joyce Builder Limited, a local contractor from Patrickswell.
Of the 52 units, 10 will be detached houses while the remaining 42 will be semi-detached.
There is also the intention to provide ancillary surface car parking and vehicular and pedestrian access to the proposed development.
The planning application is accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement (NIS) which is a scientific examination that identifies and characterises any possible implications the project may have on the conservation of the area.
This development follows the first major housing development in the Patrickswell area in 35 years which is located at Barnakyle and will consist of 111 units.
The housing development in Barnakyle commenced construction in September of this year.
Independent councillor for Limerick City West Fergus Kilcoyne commented: “The new development that started recently has opened the floodgates to people who have been sitting on land for the last 20 to 25 years.”
“Once one development starts people jump on the bandwagon because they don’t want to be left behind.
“Which is great for Patrickswell as there are so many people and particularly young people looking for houses,” Cllr Kilcoyne said.
