Students find inspiration at Limerick apprenticeship careers showcase

A LIMERICK event saw thousands of second level students learn more about "vital" apprenticeship opportunities.
This year’s Apprenticeship Careers Showcase attracted over 2,500 people interested in learning more about apprenticeships.
Organised by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, the event gave students, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents, the opportunity to engage and learn more about the options available.
Supported by the National Apprenticeship Office, the event took place on November 29 at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, in Limerick.
Throughout the two-day event, visitors were given the opportunity to hear from experts about their experience navigating the world of apprenticeship. From Business to Engineering to Aviation and Hospitality, a lot of areas were covered.
Students also got to hear from apprentices working in a variety of fields at the Apprentice Heroes Stage. With their own unique take on life, apprentices from employers such as Atlantic Aviation Group, Johnson & Johnson, ESB Networks and several more, spoke about the benefits of earning while you learn, the importance of support from their employers and the many options afforded to them working from within industry.
Speaking of the success of this year’s event, Director of Further Education and Training with the ETB, Paul Patton, said: "Apprenticeships are vital to the prosperity of this region and nationwide, and give participants the opportunity to develop the skills and expertise needed by industry.
"They are a brilliant pathway into a career and the interest that schools, students, and parents have shown over the last two days just goes to show the demand for information on apprenticeships.”
Director of the National Apprenticeship Office, Dr Mary-Liz Trant, commented: "The event was wonderful, the set-up was so dynamic and interactive and thronged with thousands of students from the region."
