Tartuffe opens in the Lime Tree Theatre

TARTUFFE opens in the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick on Wednesday and tells the tale of a scoundrel who is taken in by the wealthy household of Orgon.

Tartuffe causes a ruckus and disguises himself as a noble suitor for their daughter Marianne who is already set to wed.

“Valere is the suitor of the daughter, Marianne. And the way the play started, the inciting incident is that Orgon now wants Tartuffe to marry his daughter even though he's promised me (Valere) for months now that we're going to get married and then the play starts and Orgon wants Tartuffe to get married to Marianne.

“That's where it all starts. And there's drama,” Emmanuel Okoye said.

While the play is set 400 years ago, the Dublin actor explained that "the interactions between characters are just so funny" and his own character is “very fun”.

The mother of Marianne sees through this invader and exposes his hypocrisy while the young lovers clash over their future.

“This show is such a good laugh. It’s like this big 17th century comedy farce. So it's over the top and very funny,” the Trinity graduate told the Limerick Leader/ Limerick Live.

Tartuffe runs in the Lime Tree Theatre until April 15.
