‘The World Cup has Messi but we have Sean Finn in Limerick!’

Back to the future in Bruff as Limerick and Galway All-Ireland final inspires agri installation for hurlers like in 2018

NOBODY wants to do extra work in this heat but there was no chance of Roger Mulqueen “baling” on creating another magical agri installation to show his support for the Limerick hurlers.

The photo of his efforts graces page one of the Limerick Leader this week just like it did ahead of the All-Ireland final eight years ago against Galway.

The Bruff dairy farmer has done a display ahead of all five All-Irelands victories. Memorable ones were “Catbusters” ahead of one of the Kilkenny finals because Bill Murray played in Adare Manor, and for the Cork final a nod to the 'strawgate' incident when there were long delays on the M7 after bales fell on the motorway.

Roger was travelling home from the All-Ireland semi-final against Clare with Mike Weekes who asked if the farmer would get his paint brush out after a two-year break.

“Mike said I had to do it because if they lose, I’ll never hear the end of it!” smiled Roger.

Three mornings were spent painting in the baking heat with his Ukrainian worker Dimitri and setting it up.

Roger’s mum, Bridie, aged 78, loves the World Cup so she inspired the line – ‘World Cup has Messi, we have Sean Finn!’ His creation is also in honour of Bruff GAA player Sean Casey who got injured earlier this year but is on the Limerick panel. Roger is heading to the game thanks to Dimitri milking. He is confident but “you’d always be wary”.

"Galway were very impressive against Cork. I saw them in the league and I was very impressed with them but I thought they would be next year’s team. Clare were very good in the semi-final and I expect Limerick to be a lot better on Sunday,” said Roger.
