COMBINING dramatic theatre and installations, a new of event, titled 1960s: A Promenade Through Time, aims to recreate the lively atmosphere of Nicholas St in Limerick during the 1960s.

As part of their ongoing Tiny Little Histories programme, the Gaff, a local arts organisation, announced its partnership with community groups in St Mary’s Parish to recreate the essence of the area that was known as the beating heart of The Parish during that era.

From 6:30pm to 8:15pm, on July 27-29, audiences will be guided from St Mary’s Cathedral to King’s Island Community Centre.

Along the promenade, attendees will encounter various stops, including Nicholas St Youth Space and St Mary’s Alms House, where they will witness portrayals of everyday life within this historically significant part of Limerick city.

Upon reaching the final destination at King’s Island Community Centre, participants and the audience will be treated to refreshments and a jiving workshop, reminiscent of the community gatherings at that time.

The event will also feature storytelling by Bernard Ledger and Joe Ryan, sharing memories of living within the walls of King John’s Castle.

Additionally, scenes from Mike Finn’s acclaimed play, Field of Dreams, will be performed by John Costelloe, Carmel Duggan, and Mary O’Sullivan.

While walking and standing is involved, seats will be provided at the four venue settings.
