Gardaí investigate the break-ins which happened in same area on same night

THIEVES suspected to be in search of “valuable tools” broke into two properties under construction in Limerick.

Two houses under construction in The Spa area of Castleconnell were targeted by thieves who gained entry via rear windows on the night of Saturday, March 22 into Sunday morning, March 23.

“Gardaí suspect the target of these break-ins to be valuable tools,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer at Henry St garda station.

“If you are in the process of renovating or building a new home and perhaps in a remote location, ask neighbours to keep an eye on it and to report anything suspicious.

“Also, if you are tradesmen or building contractors, ensure all tools are stored securely and have identifiable markings on them in the event of the tools being stolen.”

An Garda Síochána held a property marking event at the University of Limerick (UL) with a further property marking event to take place in Thomas Street, in the city centre on April 29, from 12 midday.

“This is a great opportunity to get items such as bicycles, phones, laptops and tablets marked which will identify items as belonging to you,” Sgt O’Halloran said.

Further information about these events will be available on An Garda Síochána Limerick social media pages.
