Tobar na Gaeilge

Campa Samhraidh Thobar Eoin

Ritheadh Campa Samhraidh trí Ghaeilge i nGaeltacht Thobar Eoin arís i mbliana. Seo an dara bhliain den Champa atá á reachtáil ag Tobar na Gaeilge. Baineadh idir thaitneamh agus tairbhe as. Bhí raidhse imeachtaí ar siúl ag na páistí idir ciorcal cómhrá laethúil, eolaíocht, bácáil, tóraíocht taisce, cuairt ar an siopa áitiúil, spórt agus ealaín. Nach acu a bhí an spraoi trí Ghaeilge! Mar a deir an seanfhocal “Beatha teanga, í a labhairt”.

Tobar na Gaeilge ran their Irish Summer Camp for primary school children recently. This was the second year of this Irish summer camp in Kilkenny’s newest Gaeltacht, Johnswell! The aim of this summer camp is to provide a positive, encouraging environment where children can learn and practice their oral Irish through fun activities like baking, orienteering, science experiments, art and sports. This year’s group of páistí had wonderful fun making brownies and pizza, using a microscope and doing explosive experiments not to mention creating their own scarecrows and paying a visit to “Siopa Ann” in Johnswell Village where they got to practice their Irish in a real-life setting with Ann and Declan. The Campa Samhraidh welcomed local sporting star and fluent Irish speaker Laura Murphy on the last day to present the many Tobar na Gaeilge Awards of the week. The páistí had many ceisteanna for Laura about the upcoming Camoige All-Ireland which Laura answered as Gaeilge. What a treat it was to have one of their sporting heroes proudly using her Gaeilge. This year's group of páistí were a fantastic bunch who engaged in all activities wholeheartedly and embraced the Campa Samhraidh motto “Beatha Teanga, í a labhairt”. Maith sibh a pháistí! Tobar na Gaeilge would like to thank the Johnswell Development Committee for the use of Johnswell Community Hall, Johnswell Primary School for the use of their outdoor facilities, Ann in Brennan’s Bar and Shop for facilitating our visit to “Siopa Ann”, special guest speaker Laura Ní Mhurchú, agus Foras na Gaeilge as na duaiseanna agus na féiríní iontacha do na páistí. Níl aon dabht faoi ach go bhfuil an Ghaeilge beo beathach anseo i dTobar Eoin, Cill Chainnigh!
