UISCE Éireann has confirmed it is investigating widespread reports from customers in Limerick of discoloration in their water.

In response to the reports - on Wednesday evening - the utility confirmed it was seeking to identify the issue which has impacted customers several areas including Ballysheedy, Rossbrien, Raheen, Crecora, Caherdavin and Caherconlish.

It's not known if the discoloration is linked to scheduled works which are ongoing in Limerick city at present.

There is no suggestion of any health risk and householders are being advised that running the cold water tap in the kitchen for a few minutes usually clears any unusual colour.

However, if the discoloration persists, customers are advised to avoid drinking the water or using it for consumable reasons.

An Uisce Éireann response to a query from Limerick Live is awaited.
