WATCH: Limerick border school all set for clash of the ash ahead of Sunday’s final

MUNSTER final fever has taken a strong hold at one border school.

Scoil Íde in Corbally is on the Limerick and Clare border and the competition is fierce when the counties take to the pitch.

Good healthy rivalry fills the school hallways and outdoor playground with the green and white of Limerick and saffron and blue of Clare the most prominent colours on display.

Teachers Pat Butler, from Adare Co Limerick and Fergal Maguire, from Kilrush Co Clare enjoy the competitive streak between the two hurling strongholds.

“In front of the kids we would be nice and friendly and very co-operative but when it’s a chat between staff, things get a bit rough but it’s all good,” Fergal laughed.

Pat chimed in with how much days like this mean to the students: “We outnumber the Clare boys 3 to 1 so look, they absolutely love it, and teaching on the border county as well, it makes it that bit more novel and interesting as well”.

Adam Butler from Ardnacrusha, who says he lived in Limerick most of his life, was asked who would win.

“Limerick 100%” he smiled adding that William O'Donoghue is his favourite player.

11-year-old Alex Gleeson from Parteen, representing the Banner County with a Clare jersey and cap, declared “Clare all day long” when asked who will the Munster Final and explained why they are happy with the game being played in the TUS Gaelic Grounds: “It's good so that Clare fans can travel”.

James Angermann added: “Good for us because it's not that far away”.placeholder image

The Banner County children are adamant that their team will be spoiling the fun for the reigning All-Ireland Champions as they will be going hell for leather on Sunday.

Students roared with excitement as they gave score predictions with the Treaty County fans sure of retaining the Munster title and bidding for five in-a-row.

The Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final takes place this Sunday, June 11, in the TUS Gaelic Grounds with a full house expected. The match is being shown on RTE 2, throw-in at 1.45pm.
