WATCH: Mayor of Limerick reflects on the past year and looks ahead to a prosperous 2023

THE Mayor of the city and county of Limerick has been reflecting on the past year as we celebrate the first 'normal' Christmas since Covid-19.

In a Christmas message - recorded for Limerick Live - Cllr Francis Foley says he delighted that so many Limerick people will be able to spend time with their families at home in Limerick city and county this year.

"It's great this year that we can all be together," he said adding that he is also thinking of those who have been unable to travel home for Christmas.

Mayor Foley, who was elected as Limerick's first citizen in July, said his thoughts and prayers are also with the families of those who have died over the past year including Cllr Jerry O'Dea who passed away a number of days before he was expected to be elected mayor.

"He is sadly missed by me and my fellow members of Limerick City and County Council," he said.

In conclusion, the Abbeyfeale man said he is looking forward to the second half of his mayoralty and to what he hopes will be a "prosperous 2023".
