A MAN in his 20s had cash stolen from him by another man who was begging on the street in Limerick.

The 21 year-old man was giving money to a man who was begging on John's Street on Wednesday, July 5 just before 11pm.

The young man took out what cash he had which was €25, intending to hand over the €5 note. The male begging grabbed all of the money and ran off with it.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said: "If you wish to give money to homeless persons give it to a registered charity, they will ensure that the money you donate goes to the persons that need it but do not hand it to persons on the street."
