An Appreciation by Ballingarry Albion FC in memory of the late great Georgie Ivors
Club Player, Club Manager, Club Chairman, & Club Legend and Friend
It is with great sadness that the news broke on Tuesday of last week of the untimely passing of one of our great clubmen Georgie Ivors.
Georgie joined Ballingarry Albion back in 1988 and was heavily involved with the club up until 2007.
He joined the club in 1988 from River Rangers where he had played for 4/5 seasons and was part of a league winning side in the 1984/85 season.
He brought that success with him to Ballingarry where in just his second season with our club he was instrumental in the club’s division 3 winning team where he played a pivotal role in defence. Having gained promotion to division 2, we stayed there until the 1999/2000 season.
Georgie took his talents from the field to the sideline and became manager of the club demonstrating the respect he had of everyone in the club.
He guided the team to division 1 and the following season was manager again when the team won the division 1 title and gained entry into the Premier division for the first time ever.
Georgie Ivors was the ideal clubman and an example to all.
In his time with the club he was a player, then captain and then manager all while being club chairman from 1998 until 2007.
The club cannot thank him and his family enough for his time put into the club and how he steered Ballingarry soccer to Tipperary’s top table in the early 2000s.
He remained a fan of the club for years, always asking how the club were getting on and how results were going and we were told he was delighted to hear the club had gone back under the name of his beloved Ballingarry Albion this year.
He was an absolute warrior on the pitch and epitomised everything good about Ballingarry soccer.
We offer our sincere condolences to his wife Mary, daughters Patsy and Jacqueline and sons Joseph and Jonathan who both played for the club in years gone by and also to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and brothers and sisters
May you rest in peace Georgie.
