Councillor Shane Lee has asked the Municipal District Council to move a zebra crossing in Templemore.

He told members at last week’s sitting that when the post office was moved to the Spar shop, it created more foot traffic in the area of the town.

However, he said the zebra crossing is too far away, and it is particularly dangerous for elderly pedestrians.

District Engineer Thomas Duffy said they have spoken to Transport Infrastructure Ireland about the crossing.

He said a heat map investigation is required.

However, TII do not intend to move the crossing at this time.

Cllr Noel Coonan supported his colleague and asked for temporary measures to be implemented.

He said there are road works in the area that may obstruct the crossing.

“There is a need for temporary measures to ensure the safety of people,” said Cllr Coonan.

Mr Duffy said he would look into it.
