Cllr John O' Heney says the centre should be in use for the community

Tipperary Councillor John O' Heney has reiterated calls to open the healthcare centre in the village of Emly.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr O'Heney said: "Currently, I am actively engaged with the HSE about the future of Emly Healthcare Centre.

"This once-vibrant healthcare facility has been out of use in recent years. The HSE are now working to put the building back into use, and have been keeping it very well maintained, despite it being closed.

"All Medical Treatment has been streamlined in recent years to the Primary Care Centre in Tipperary Town, however, all avenues are being explored and other Services could potentially be used in the Centre going forward.

"Like the successful 'Save Bansha Pre School' campaign last year, I would be delighted to have a Service in place in the building going forward rather than seeing it sold or not in use at all.

"Retention of Services and the addition of new Services in rural Tipperary is something I care passionately about.

"More information to follow, once I have it. Feel free to contact me with questions or suggestions."

Comments came flooding in echoing the calls of the Tipp councillor to keep these services within the village, such as,

"Be great to have it going again if any one will do it the mighty John will".

"Being a patient myself in Tipperary, I for one would so delighted to have a surgery again in Emly, would take the pressure off going to Tipperary."

And,

"Would be great as a community pre school, breakfast club and afterschool facility, waiting lists are crazy all over Tipperary and limerick. There would definitely be a demand for it john.. worth looking into."
